A construction site can be a dangerous place for the inexperienced and the unwary.
Complete a Young persons risk assessment and ensure the young person is briefed in the findings of the assessment.
The way you dress and the way you behave is vitally important to your safety.
Pay attention to your instructors/supervisors and they will teach you the safe way to work.
Dress tidily and safely. Close-fitting clothing with nothing flapping about, safety boots, hi-vis vest, gloves and hard hat are to be worn all the time you are at work.
Other PPE may be necessary for certain operations - your instructor/supervisor will advise you. Use PPE as instructed - do not adapt it or misuse it in any way.
Do not operate any equipment, powered hand tool or plant unless you have been trained and authorised to do so. You must be at least 18 years old to operate plant.
Do not remove guards from machinery - they are provided for your protection.
Use substances only in accordance with instructions received. If you have not been instructed, do not use them.
Horseplay on site is very dangerous and is not tolerated. Disciplinary action will be taken against offenders. Do not run!
Do not fool about with compressed air lines and do not use them to blow dust off of your clothing - very serious injuries could result.
Always use the recognised access ways around the site and never take short cuts.
Do not leave your place of work without permission, and do not go to other parts of the site unless specifically instructed to do so.
Work tidily and clean up as you go - it is far safer that way.
Use only the access equipment provided, and only as instructed - makeshifts make accidents.
If you should injure yourself get first-aid treatment at once. Even a small cut can be dangerous if neglected.
Familiarise yourself with the site fire and emergency procedures so that you know what to do in an emergency.
If you are in doubt about anything at all, please ask your instructor/supervisor.
