No. 11 - Electricity

General

  • Unlike most other hazards on site which can be seen, felt or heard, there is no advance warning of danger from electricity - and it can kill.
  • It must be clearly understood that the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical services, and equipment must only be done by a competent qualified electricians.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Power Tools

  • Do not bring ‘foreign’ tools or extension leads onto the site.
  • All tools on site must be 110v.
  • Before using a power tool, check for defective cables, plugs and sockets or any other damage.
  • When using a power tool, disconnect it from the supply before making adjustments and when it is not in use.
  • Fuses must not be ‘up-rated’.
  • Power tools must not be plugged into lighting circuits.
  • The tool must not be carried, lifted or lowered by its cable.
  • Stay out of the wet when using an electric tool.
  • Ensure the tool PAT test has been completed within the last 3 months.
  • Never use defective tools or equipment - report them at once.
